This article will guide you through the most common Order Mode setup for your Byte tablet when your location has an accompanying kitchen printer, but no kitchen tablet.
🚨 Before you begin, please read through the following articles and check that you are familiar with and have completed all of the requirements:
Choose Mode
The Byte app defaults to Order Mode. If this tablet is for the kitchen instead, toggle "Kitchen Mode" on and take a look at the Kitchen Mode article that best suits your needs within Common Setups!

Block Barcode Scan
The next thing you need to make sure is enabled is "Block Barcode Scan Only". This disables scanning items using the barcode scanner. This also shows a "Sorry, this kiosk is currently closed" message when no items are available for checkout at that time. For more details, please see Screen Settings.
Pay on Kiosk
Next, "Pay on Kiosk Mode" and "Auto Print Receipt" need to be toggled on. Byte's default user experience requires customers to pay at the Mashgin kiosk. That means a receipt with a QR code will automatically print and they can take the receipt to pay on a kiosk. Therefore, these settings will need to be toggled on. For more details, please see Advanced Settings.
Printer Rules
Kitchen
Since your location does not have a kitchen-facing tablet, you will need to create at least one kitchen printer rule for the kitchen staff to be able to receive and view ticket orders. You can choose which kitchen printers will print orders from certain stations, or if you only have one kitchen printer, you can choose for it to print "All Stations".
Customer
A "Customer + QR" printer rule must be configured for the Pay on Kiosk Mode to function properly.
For more details, please see Printer Rules.
Select Meals (Dayparts)
The next crucial step of the setup process is to choose which Daypart will be shown on the tablet. We recommend selecting "Auto" so that the tablet meal items shown will automatically update based on the local time. For more details, please see Meals (Dayparts) Settings.
Select Stations
Lastly, choose which stations will appear on the tablet. We recommend setting this to "All" if the tablet will be used by customers to order from any of the stations. For more details, please see Select Stations Settings.
Now your customer-facing tablet is ready for orders! Please check out Order Mode Settings for an in-depth look at all of the customization options that you can utilize.
