Read below to learn how to get started with a Visual Checkout Station!
🚨 Please Note: All existing containers will now be automatically transitioned to the new UI. Stations, however, are available to you to be manually created. Read below for more details on how to create stations for visual checkout! If you would like assistance with creating the stations, please reach out to our Support team at help@mashgin.com.
Step 1
Navigate to Creator to start building your station
Step 2
Create a New Station
Press the Add Station button
Step 3
Name the Station & Set Visibility
The name does not matter as it won’t be visible to customers, name it whatever you'd like!
🚨 Please Note: If you don’t want these items to appear in Byte or Mobile menus, the “Visible On” should be set to Visual Checkout Only
Step 4
Create a Category
Press the + (plus sign) button
Step 5
Name the Category
Same as above, the name does not matter and will never be visible to the customer
Step 6
Adding Items
Press the Add Item button
Step 7
Search For or Add New Items
Search for existing items in your menu or add a new item

Step 8
Add Option Groups
Press the + (plus sign) next to the Option Groups title to add new option groups |
Step 9
Name the Option Group (Heading)
The name of the option group should probably be the question asked to the customer, like "What sandwich is this?" or “How many donuts do you have?”
Step 10
Add Items as Options
Select the items you would like to add to the option group. Essentially, these items should be "answers" to the question you posed for the title.
🚨 Please Note: It is recommended that the items that are added to the option groups are items that are already existing in your menu, not newly created items that populate when creating the option group and clicking "add new option".

Step 11
Sync Kiosk and Test Visual Checkout Station Experience!
Within Manager Mode on the kiosk, press Sync DB to pull down any changes that were made within Creator. Place the item on the base and test out the experience. Make any changes as needed.
đź’ˇ Please remember, you may need to add poses of the item to the "parent" item if the item does not already have poses (for example, adding poses of the box or packaging to the Sub Sandwich item in the menu -- please see How to Pose Items for more details).
Best Practices
Do I need to add item images?
- Adding item images is completely optional, however it does change the look of the checkout experience when added.
- Adding no item images will default to using the live “cam view” that highlights the item(s).
- Keep in mind: If one of the options has an image, all the remaining options in the group will show an image “placeholder”. Best practice is to either give all the options in a group images, or none.

Containers
A “container” is a parent item that only contains other items/options, and cannot be checked out itself. The price of a container is never factored into the checkout total. Containers could be visually-similar items where a customer needs to select the right one, or it could be a literal container that could have many items in it, or it could just be any time a customer needs to make a selection between items. There are two ways to create containers for your visual options experience:
Adding "Container" Tag | Legacy Containers |
Add the "container" tag to any item in a Station menu. With this tag, the item will be treated as a container where it will never show up in the cart and all of the user’s option selections will be top-level items. |
Containers can still be added using the traditional or legacy model, by either going to:

Multi-Select Quantities (Count-Required)
Any of the same items recognized visually that have the "count-required" tag will be combined, meaning: if 2 or more of the same item are in the cart, only 1 option screen will show.
This is for scenarios where the customer has to select the items or quantities that they are purchasing and when they put 2 or more of these items down it will just ask them once to make their selections.
First, within the Option Groups screen, you must enable Multi-Select with a “Max Count” for every option. |

Next, add the "count-required" tag to the parent item. | |
